Once the area is safe, look at water level, skimmer flow, pump behavior, and filter pressure. Heavy debris can restrict normal circulation even when the surface looks manageable.
What a post-storm review should cover
A good review works from the system outward instead of treating every storm as a simple skimming job.
- Remove large debris without forcing it into the circulation system
- Empty accessible baskets and confirm normal water flow
- Check whether the water level is outside its normal range
- Test the water before making chemistry decisions
- Document unusual cloudiness, stains, scale, or equipment sounds
- Escalate damaged or unsafe equipment instead of guessing at a repair
Avoid blind chemical corrections
Storm water and debris can affect several readings at once. Adding products without current test results can waste chemicals or create a second problem. Test first, then make a measured plan based on the actual pool.
If visibility is poor, circulation is abnormal, or equipment appears damaged, a professional inspection is the safer next step.
When a normal weekly visit may not be enough
A light debris load may fit the normal service routine. Heavy runoff, poor visibility, blocked circulation, damaged equipment, or a large amount of organic material can require a separately reviewed cleanup or recovery plan.
Separating routine work from recovery work protects both the pool and the homeowner. It creates room to confirm the condition, explain the added scope, and avoid promising a result before the system has been evaluated.
What to document before requesting help
Clear information helps a service provider understand urgency and arrive prepared without treating a photo as a complete diagnosis.
- A wide photo of the pool and surrounding debris
- A photo of the equipment area if it is safe to approach
- Whether the pump is operating normally
- Any visible damage, leaks, or electrical concerns
- The approximate time and severity of the storm
- Whether water is cloudy, green, unusually high, or unusually low
